Our workshop specializes in fine instrument restoration using modern conservative techniques. We are comfortable with the extensive restorations others find daunting. With a complete understanding of the acoustic principals and tonal configurations developed by the Cremonese masters, Becker and the firm have had the privilege of maintaining or restoring over 100 of Stradivari’s and over 45 of Guarneri del Gesù’s violins, including many outstanding del Gesùs, the crown jewels of the violin trade—the ‘King Joseph’ of 1737, ‘Kemp, Emperor’ of 1738, ‘Vieuxtemps’ of 1741, ‘Lord Wilton’ of 1742, and ‘Ole Bull’ of 1744—and exceptional Stradivaris—the ‘Arditi’ of 1689, ‘La Pucelle’ of 1709, ‘Bass of Spain’ of 1713, ‘Baron d’Assignies’ of 1713, ‘Baron Knoop’ of 1715, and the ‘Tyrrell’ of 1717.
